According to Pakistan's "Dawn" report, a Chinese company will invest US$150 million to build an industrial park on the border between Lahore and Kasur, Pakistan, mainly engaged in textile and clothing processing, and its products will be exported to Europe, America and Asia-Pacific regions.
This Shanghai-based company may be the first foreign direct investment company in the export industry. The company's garment processing plant in Lahore, Pakistan, which started in 2017, has reached an export value of US$44 million in the previous fiscal year, and the export value of this fiscal year is expected to increase to US$54 million.
The person in charge of the company said that once the Fashion Industrial Park invested by the company in Pakistan is launched in July next year, it is expected to increase the export volume of Pakistani sportswear by 120 million US dollars, and the export value will increase to 400 million US dollars in the next few years.
It is reported that the export value of Pakistan's largest textile export company last year was close to 300 million US dollars.
"Our park will introduce advanced management methods, as well as the most advanced and environmentally friendly technologies. Our plan is to make Pakistan the company’s polyester fiber sportswear export center. We have customers such as Adidas and Reebok in China, If we develop well, they will also be interested in investing in Pakistan." The person in charge of the company said, "There are currently 3,000 employees in Pakistan’s garment processing plants, including 28 Chinese employees. Once the park is put into operation, it will create 10,000 To 11,000 new jobs."
It is reported that the company entered the Pakistan market in 2014 and established a joint venture with Masood Textiles, the main exporter of Faisalabad, but failed to continue the cooperation. The company subsequently established a wholly-owned garment processing factory in Lahore.
When asked why no other Chinese textile companies have moved to Pakistan for investment, the person in charge of the company said that due to labor shortages and rising wages, Chinese textile companies are trying to invest and build factories abroad, and many companies also want to come to Pakistan. But the Chinese hope to move their business to a place where they can start their business within 3-6 months. No company is willing to waste two years of acquiring land and then spending a few years to build supporting facilities. "This is the biggest problem in Pakistan at the moment," she said. "Even in Africa, there are industrial parks that have completed land leveling and supporting infrastructure. Enterprises can directly enjoy the ‘plug and play’ facilities there."
